BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Stanford University and Pomona-Pitzer Colleges remain at No. 1 in the Division I and III ranks after three weeks of early season varsity competition as the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) releases the 2023 Week 3/February 1 Women’s Varsity National Top 25, Division III Top 10, CWPA Top Five and CWPA Division III Top Five Polls.
Stanford – which claimed the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) title – and Pomona-Pitzer – which garnered the USA Water Polo Division III Collegiate Championship – in 2022 remain early season favorites to repeat as champions.
The University of Michigan and Austin College – which won the CWPA Division I and III Championships, respectively, last year – remain at No. 1 in the CWPA Top Five and CWPA Division III Top Five Polls.
Voted on by a panel of coaches from the Western Water Polo Association (WWPA), the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF), the Golden Coast Conference, the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC), the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), the Big West Conference, the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) and the CWPA based on the cumulative results of the season, the polls are compiled and released on Wednesday during the season.
2023 Women’s Varsity National Top 25 (Week 3/February 1)
The Cardinal of Stanford University continue to rule the varsity water polo scene by holding serve at No. 1 in the 2023 Women’s Varsity National Top 25 Week 3/February 1 Poll.
The Cardinal (99 points) expand their lead to three points compared to the University of Southern California (96 points) as USC continues to remain in striking distance of Stanford. The University of California-Los Angeles (91 points), the University of California (88 points) and the University of Hawaii (84 points) remain at No. 3-to-5, respectively.
The University of Michigan (77 points), Long Beach State University (71 points) and Fresno State University (69 points) creep up to No. 6-to-8, while the University of California-Irvine (68 points) slides to No. 9 in front of Arizona State University (65 points) to complete the Top 10.
University of the Pacific (61 points) experiences the largest rise in this week’s poll as the Tigers ascend from No. 19 to 11.
The University of California-Davis (51 points) moves to No. 12 with Indiana University (50 points) sticking at No. 13 for another seven-day run.
Princeton University (47 points) and Wagner College (47 points) settle into a tie at No. 14, while the University of California-Santa Barbara (46 points), San Jose State University (38 points) and the University of California-San Diego (28 points) take command of the No. 16-to-18 positions.
Long Island University (27 points) and Harvard University (34 points) move into a tie at No. 18 with San Diego State University (18 points), Loyola Marymount University (16 points), Marist College (15 points), California State University-Northridge (11 points) and Brown University (6 points) completing the Top 25.

Pomona-Pitzer Colleges continues at No. 1 in the Women’s Varsity Division III Top 10 Week 3/February 1 Poll for the 2023 season.
Pomona-Pitzer (100 points) remains a unanimous top selection with Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges (94 points) and Whittier College (87 points) following at No. 2 and 3.
The University of La Verne (84 points) and Chapman University (81 points) take over a No. 4 and 5 with California Lutheran University (75 points) dropping back to No. 6.
The University of Redlands (73 points), Austin College (64 points), Occidental College (61 points) and Augustana College (45 points) complete this week’s Division III Top 10.

Connecticut College (49 points) acquires company at No. 5 as Grove City College (49 points) pulls even with the Camels.
