BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Stanford University and Pomona-Pitzer Colleges remain at No. 1 in the Division I and III ranks after seven weeks of varsity competition as the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) releases the 2023 Week 7/March 1 Women’s Varsity National Top 25, Division III Top 10, CWPA Top Five and CWPA Division III Top Five Polls.
Stanford – which claimed the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) title – and Pomona-Pitzer – which garnered the USA Water Polo Division III Collegiate Championship – in 2022 remain favorites to repeat as champions during the 2023 campaign.
The University of Michigan – which won the 2022 CWPA Division I Championship – continues at No. 1 in the group’s Top Five rankings by a point over Princeton University. Augustana College hangs onto the lead position in the CWPA Division III Top Five poll
Voted on by a panel of coaches from the Western Water Polo Association (WWPA), the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF), the Golden Coast Conference, the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC), the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), the Big West Conference, the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) and the CWPA based on the cumulative results of the season, the polls are compiled and released on Wednesday during the season.
2023 Women’s Varsity National Top 25 (Week 7/March 1)
The Cardinal of Stanford University remain the top team in the land by continuing to reign at No. 1 in the 2023 Women’s Varsity National Top 25 Week 7/March 1 Poll.
The Cardinal (100 points) return to rating as a unanimous top selection and expands its lead to four points over the University of Southern California (96 points). The University of California (92 points) surpasses the University of California-Los Angeles (88 points) to take over at No. 3, while the University of Hawaii (84 points), the University of California-Irvine (79 points) and Long Beach State University (76 points) remain at No. 5-to-7, respectively.
Fresno State University (71 points), Arizona State University (66 points) and the University of California-Santa Barbara (64 points) complete the Top 10 as the trio improve two spots from No. 10, fall back to No. 9 and rocket up from No. 15, respectively, from last week’s rankings.
Change is also abundant in the backend of the Top 25 as the University of California-Davis (57 points) moves up to No. 11, the University of Michigan (55 points) slides to No 12, Princeton University (53 points) takes over at No. 13, Wagner College (48 points) drops back to No. 14 and University of the Pacific (45 points) slips to No. 15.
The University of California-San Diego (36 points), Loyola Marymount University (33 points), Indiana University (30 points) and Harvard University (28 points) stand at No. 16-to-19, while Brown University (26 points) and San Jose State University (26 points) are deadlocked at No. 20.
Long Island University (14 points) and San Diego State University (12 points) stand at No. 22 and 23 with California State University-Northridge (9 points) and Pomona-Pitzer Colleges (9 points) tied at No. 24.

Pomona-Pitzer (100 points) remains a unanimous top selection with Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges (94 points), the University of La Verne (88 points), Chapman University (83 points) and Whittier College (79 points) remaining at No 2-to-5.
The University of Redlands (76 points) inches in front of California Lutheran University (75 points) to stand at No. 6 and 7, while Augustana College (64 points), Austin College (59 points) and Occidental College (33 points) remain at No. 8-to-10.

Defending Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Champion the University of Michigan retains the No. 1 position in the 2023 CWPA Division I Top Five Week 7/March 1 Poll by the narrowest of margins.
The 2005, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2021 and 2022 league champion, Michigan (99 points) holds off Princeton University (97 points) by a single point.
Princeton – which was tied with 2022 CWPA Championship runner-up Harvard University (89 points) at No. 2 last week – acquires sole possession of the spot following an 11-4 defeat of the Crimson over the weekend. Harvard backs up to No. 3 with Brown University (86 points) and Saint Francis University (80 points) remaining stagnant at No. 4 and 5.
