BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — The Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) releases the 2025 Week 3/February 5 Women’s Varsity National Top 25, Division III Top 10, CWPA Top Five and CWPA Division III Top Five Polls.

Following a 14-11 defeat of defending National Champion/previously No. 1-ranked the University of California-Los Angeles, the University of Southern California rises to take over the top spot in the National Top 25 rankings.  Pomona-Pitzer Colleges – which garnered the 2024 USA Water Polo Division III Collegiate Championship – retains its previous top-billing in the Division III Top 10 balloting.

2024 CWPA Division I (Princeton University) and Division III (Augustana College) champions continue at No. 1 in the  CWPA Top Five and CWPA Division III Top Five Polls, respectively.

Voted on by a panel of coaches from around the country based on the cumulative results of the season, the polls will be compiled and released on Wednesday during the season starting the Wednesday following the first regular season contest.

2025 Women’s Varsity National Top 25 (Week 3)

The University of Southern California dislodges crosstown nemesis the University of California-Los Angeles to acquire the No. 1 ranking in the Week 3/February 5 Women’s Varsity National Top 25 Poll.

The Trojans (98 points) – which defeated UCLA by a 14-11 score over the weekend – hold a narrow one point lead over Stanford University (97 points) for the top spot.  UCLA (92 points) falls to No. 3 – the position previously held by USC – with the University of California (89 points), the University of Hawaii (84 points) and the University of California-Irvine (77 points) continuing at No. 4-to-6, respectively.

Long Beach State University (73 points) improves three positions to take over at No. 7 with Princeton University (71 points) following The Beach up the rankings to take over at No. 8.

The biggest movement of the week belongs to the University of California-Davis (68 points) which ascends from No. 21 to No. 9 with Fresno State (64 points) backing up to No. 10.

Arizona State University (58 points) drops back to No. 11, Indiana University (55 points) stays at No. 12, the University of California-San Diego (54 points) moves up to No. 13, Loyola Marymount University (50 points) slides to No. 14 and the University of California-Santa Barbara (44 points) remains status quo at No. 15.

The University of Michigan (42 points), San Jose State University (35 points), Harvard University (29 points), California State University-Northridge (27 points) and Wagner College (21 points) rearrange to rate at No. 16-to-20 with Brown University (18 points), University of the Pacific (16 points), San Diego State University (15 points) and California Baptist University (12 points) taking over at No. 21-to-24.

Long Island University (3 points) and Pomona-Pitzer Colleges (3 points) complete the Week 3 Top 25 in a tie for the final position.

2025 Women’s Varsity Division III Top 10 (Week 3)

Pomona-Pitzer Colleges stays at No. 1 in the Week 3/February 5 Women’s Varsity Division III Top 10 Poll.

Pomona-Pitzer (100 points) remains a unanimous top selection and retains a lead of five points over runner-up Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges (95 points).  California Lutheran University (87 points) flip-flops with Chapman University (86 points) at No. 3 and 4 with the University of La Verne (76 points) and Augustana College (75 points) continuing at No. 5 and 6 for another seven-day run.

Whittier College (67 points), Macalester College (66 points) and Austin College (51 points) break a three-way tie at No. 7 from last week to come in at No. 7, 8 and 9 in the February 5 balloting. 

Occidental College (49 points) once again completes the Top 10.

2025 Women’s Varsity Collegiate Water Polo Association Top 5 (Week 3)

Defending Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Champion Princeton University remains the favorite to capture another title in 2025 as the Tigers retain the No. 1 spot in the Week 3/February 5 CWPA Division I Top Five Poll.

The 2000, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2023 and 2024 league champion Tigers (98 points) hold a retain a two-point margin over 2005, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2021 and 2022 league champion the University of Michigan (96 points) for the lead position. 

Brown University (89 points), Harvard University (87 points) and Bucknell University (64 points) round out the remainder of the Top Five.

2023 and 2024 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division III Champion Augustana College retains status as the top-ranked program in the Week 3/February 5 CWPA Division III Top Five Poll.

The Vikings (99 points) stay at No. 1 as 2017, 2018 and 2019 CWPA Division III Champion Macalester College (95 points) and 2021 and 2022 CWPA Division III Champion Austin College (89 points) exchange the No. 2 and 3 positions behind Augustana.

Washington & Jefferson College (68 points) remains a lock at No. 4, while Carthage College (51 points) cracks the Top Five.
