ORANGE, Calif. — The Connecticut College women’s water polo team completed a four-game road trip in California by falling to Division III No. 6-ranked Chapman University, 17-9.
After the teams traded goals to start the game, Chapman netted eight unanswered to build up a commanding 9-1 advantage with under four minutes remaining in the second quarter and never looked back. Connecticut College sliced the deficit down to six by the break, but the Camels would not be able to come any closer during the second half.
Sophomore captain Stephania Lopez (Chicago, Ill.) continued her scoring barrage to start the season by racking up five goals and two assists in the contest. She also added two steals and a field block. Freshman Marissa Moreno (San Diego, Calif.) contributed two goals and three assists, while juniors Ginny McCool (Delray Beach, Fla.) and Ashley Ignatowski (Guilford, Conn.) made three saves apiece between the posts.
