Division III No. 6 Hamilton College-vs.-Carleton College Scoresheet (2022 Collegiate Water Polo Association Division III Club Championship – Game #6)

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. — SJ Bennett (Sr., Stamford, Conn./Westhill) scored eight times, Georgia Brown (Fr., Belvedere, Calif./Marin Academy) added five and Sabrina Broderick (So., New York, N.Y./Trinity School NYC) posted four markers as Division III No. 6-ranked/Mid-Atlantic Division representative Hamilton College overwhelmed Carleton College to reach the Third Place game of the 2022 Women’s Division III Collegiate Club Championship hosted by Middlebury College.

Courtesy the victory, Hamilton will take on Division III No. 3/North Atlantic Division institution Middlebury at 11:30 a.m. in the Third Place game as the Continentals will seek to return to Clinton, N.Y., with a plaque.

Carleton – which finishes fifth in the five-team championship field due to the loss to Hamilton – fell behind 6-0 by the 3:25 mark of the first quarter and was unable to rally back as the Continentals establish a new record for most goals in a Women’s Division III Club Championship tournament game.  The previous high was established a day earlier on April 30 as No. 1/Sierra Pacific Division representative the University of California-Santa Cruz defeated Carleton 24-4, while Division III No. 4 Washington University in St. Louis topped Hamilton by a 24-6 count.

The Continentals never trailed in the game by opening up an 8-2 lead by the conclusion of the first quarter, carrying a 14-6 margin into halftime and possessing a 21-6 spread through 21 minutes of action in rolling to a 17-goal victory.

For Carleton, Eesha Shah (Sr., Cedar Falls, Iowa/Phillips Exeter Academy) led the way with three goals, while Kristin Hultgren (Jr., Centennial, Colo./Cherry Creek), Amelia Watt (Fr., Yarmouth, Maine/Yarmouth), Keely Fisher (Sr., Pueblo, Colo./Pueblo West), Sophie Baggett (Jr., La Crosse, Wis./Logan) and Chloe Truebenbach (Jr., Cambridge, Minn./Milaca) each notched solo tallies.

In cage, Grace Maooly (Fr., Salt Lake City, Utah/Judge Memorial Catholic) stopped 12 shots in taking the loss.

The trio of Bennett, Brown and Broderick combined for 17 of their team’s 25 goals as six Continentals posted multi-score games.  Claire Goldstein (Sr., Briarcliff Manor, N.Y./Briarcliff Manor) tacked on three goals, while the duo of Hannah Budner (Jr., Plainfield, N.H./Plainfield) and Maddie Sakheim (Sr., Hamden, Conn./Choate Rosemary Hall) both slipped in pairs.  Katrina Colby (Sr., Niskayuna, N.Y./Niskayuna) contributed a solo marker with goalie Keeley Duran (Sr., Barkhamsted, Conn./The Ethel Walker School) making 13 saves to pick-up the victory.
