BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Five Mercyhurst University men’s water polo team members garnered recognition as 2017-18 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Scholar-Athletes.

Daniel Alvarez (So., Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago), Ryan Mercando (Jr., Pennsburg, Pa./Upper Perkiomen), Philip Jenny (Jr., Lawrenceville, Georgia/Collins Hills), Jonathan Merkley (Fr., Portland, Ore./David Douglas) and Andrew Howe (Fr., Thousand Oaks, Calif./Crespi Carmelite) collected recognition for their academic achievements as student-athletes must maintain a 3.25 cumulative grade point average or better to be named a scholar-athlete.

308 Mercyhurst student-athletes earned recognition as PSAC Scholar-Athletes as the institution earned the most awards by besting Bloomsburg University (124), California University (141), Cheyney University (48), Clarion University (147), East Stroudsburg University (214), Gannon University (252), Indiana University (196), Kutztown University (180), Lock Haven University (148), Mansfield University (79), Millersville University (141), University of Pittsburgh-Johnstown (68), Seton Hill University (257), Shippensburg University (164), Slippery Rock University (204) and West Chester University (266).
