BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — The Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) goes into the archives of the United States Naval Academy for a men’s game pitting the Midshipmen against the Golden Bears of the University of California during the semifinals of the 2007 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championship hosted by Stanford University.
The game occurred on Saturday, December 1, 2007, at the Avery Aquatic Center as Navy dropped an 8-5 decision to the Golden Bears. Navy received single goals from Bram Arnold, Mike Mulvey, Kevin Bell, Aaron Recko and Andrew Bingham, while goalie George Naughton turned aside 10 shots between the pipes. For Cal, Michael Sharf and Jeff Tyrrell both netted hat-tricks to accompany solo strikes by Spencer Warden and Trent Calder. Goalkeeper Mark Sheredy earned the victory with 10 saves for California.
