ERIE, Pa. — The Gannon University men’s water polo team extended its winning streak to four games with a 21-14 win at Penn State Behrend. The Golden Knights wrap up the regular season at 11-8, while Behrend dropped to 0-17.
The season-high 21 goals were the most since a 22-goal effort versus Mount St. Mary’s University in March. Gannon jumped out to a 9-4 lead after one period. Five different players notched a goal in the period, with Robert Bolmanski (Fairview, Pa./McDowell) scoring all four of his goals. Less than a week ago, the senior was named the Tournament Most Valuable Player at the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division II National Championship.
The Golden Knights would extend the lead to 15-8 at the half, adding another six goals by six different players. The second half was evenly played, with each team scoring three goals in the third quarter and three in the fourth.
All told, 13 Golden Knights reached the back of the cage. Bolmanski led the way with four goals, while Dylan Schmitzerle (Richmond, Va.) and Matt Harkrader (Hatfield, Pa./North Penn) had three goals apiece. Seth Johnson (Sugar Hill, Ga./Lanier) accounted for two goals, while Drago Marjanovic (Belgrade, Serbia/North Allegheny (Pa.)), Garrett Takei (Fremont, Calif./Irvington), John Vieira (Erie, Pa/Northwest Pennsylvania Collegiate Academy (McDowell)), Ethan Hamp (Chicago, Ill./Von Steuben), Jordan Kraus (Erie, Pa./McDowell), Thomas Koelling (St. Louis, Mo.), Grant Simeone (Westerville, Ohio/Thomas Worthington), Thomas Uht (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) and Matthew Marks (Milford, Ohio/Homeschool).
