2023 George Washington University Men’s Water Polo Schedule

WASHINGTON, D.C. — George Washington University water polo will seek to bring home another Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) Championship in the program’s 40th season of men’s water polo.

A 25-game regular-season schedule – includes 13 non-conference matches and 12 MAWPC matches await the newly renamed Revolutionaries (previously Colonials) in 2023. GW will host six matches at home during the upcoming season.

The regular season begins with a trip up to the tri-state area to play in the Princeton Mini at Princeton University in Princeton, N.J., where GW will meet Long Island University and defending Northeast Water Polo Conference (NWPC) Champion Princeton on September 2 to open the 2023 campaign. The Buff and Blue will look to avenge last season’s opening-day loss to Princeton – the 2022 squad’s only setback before its historic program-best 15-game win streak.

On September 9 and 10, GW will return to Princeton for the Princeton Invitational, where it will face off against California Baptist University, Chapman University and Harvard University.

Non-conference play continues on September 15 and 16 with a trip to the West Coast. GW will play true road contests against Loyola Marymount University and the University of La Verne, along with a neutral-site bout against Concordia University.

MAWPC play begins in late September, with four of GW’s first five matches scheduled at home. MAWPC play will consist of home and away games against Bucknell University, defending MAWPC Champion Fordham University, Johns Hopkins University, Mount St. Mary’s University, the United States Naval Academy and Wagner College.

Returning Second Team All-MAWPC goalkeeper, Luca Castorina, will lead the club into action, having logged every minute in goal last season and notching 287 saves with a 49.6 save percentage in 2022.

The Revolutionaries will break from MAWPC action in mid-October for the Harvard Invitational, where they will go up against Brown University, Iona University, the host Crimson and the University of California-Merced with two games apiece in Providence, R.I., and Cambridge, Mass., on October 14 and 15.

GW will close the regular season following the Harvard Invitational with five remaining MAWPC contests. Following the conclusion of the regular season, GW will travel to Lewisburg, Pa., to play in the 2023 MAWPC Championship, hosted by Bucknell. From November 17-19, the Buff and Blue will be looking to win its first MAWPC Championship since 2018 and punch a return ticket to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championship tournament.
