2018 George Washington University Men’s Water Polo Schedule

WASHINGTON – Eight home games and a trip to California highlight the 2018 George Washington University men’s water polo schedule.

The Colonials head into the Fall looking to earn a repeat Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) title after winning their first conference championship and advancing to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Tournament last season. They were one of eight teams that qualified for the national tournament in 2017 before closing with a No. 17 national ranking and their most wins in nearly two decades (17).

“We are really looking forward to playing this schedule as we build off of our championship momentum from 2017,” said head coach Barry King. “We will play great competition from the beginning and look to improve our level of play throughout. As always, our goal is to be playing our best water polo in November and to win a conference championship.”

GW kicks off the season with three weekend tournaments to get ready for MAWPC play, beginning with the Navy Open at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md., on September 1-2. The Colonials then head to the Princeton Invitational at Princeton University in Princeton, N.J. (September 8-9) and the Aggie Shootout at the University of California-Davis in Davis Calif. (September 14-16).

The 12-game MAWPC schedule begins in New York on September 22 with a split road doubleheader at Fordham University in the Bronx, N.Y. and Wagner College in Staten Island, N.Y. The nightcap against Wagner is a rematch of last season’s conference tournament final, won by GW, 8-5, at Navy.

After MAWPC road games at La Salle University in Philadelphia, Pa., (September 23) and Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Md., (September 28), the Colonials begin a stretch in which they play five of six games at home in the Charles E. Smith Center Pool, including home conference contests against Bucknell University (September 29) and Navy (October 19).

GW heads back to New Jersey for the Princeton Select on November 2-3 before returning to Foggy Bottom for a MAWPC doubleheader against Fordham and Wagner on November 4.

The Colonials are set to celebrate Senior Day on November 10, while hosting Johns Hopkins at 1100 a.m. George Washington finishes the doubleheader and the regular season later that night at Navy.

The 2018 MAWPC Championship will be held from November 16-18 at Fordham’s Messmore Aquatic Center with the victor earning the league’s berth to the NCAA Championship.
