CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — The Harvard University men’s water polo team adds five new members to its roster for the 2019-20 season, as announced by the Friends of Harvard Water Polo Head Coach and James Herscot ’58 Coach of Excellence, Ted Minnis.
“I’m very excited to have these five scholar-athletes come into our program and help us achieve the goals that we’ve set in and out of the pool for this upcoming fall,” said Minnis in regards to Kaleb Archer, Alex Bucur, Roger Brockett, Gabe Putnam and Nathan Wu.

Four-time varsity letterwinner in water polo and swimming … Two-time All-America second team… Named All-America third team… Three-time All-CIF first team… Two-time TRAC Offensive Player of the Year… Earned TRAC MVP of the Year…Collected All-NorCal first team honors for three consecutive years… Three-time member of Central Section Division 1 CIF Champions team… Aided his school in four straight Tri River Athletic Conference Championships… Led the league in goals for two consecutive seasons… Set the school record in goals and assists during his senior year… Tallied 136 goals, 47 assists and 36 steals throughout senior year… Attended USA Water Polo camp… Served as Buchanan team captain during senior year… Son of Kurt and Gweynn Archer.

Competed for the Stanford Water Polo Club from 2014-19… Garnered USA Water Polo Outstanding All-America honors from 2015-2018… Member of the 2017 CCS open Division Champions and second-place NorCal Championship teams… Aided his team to CCS DII Championship finish… Two-year letterwinner in water polo… Three-year letterwinner in swimming… 2018 National Merit Commended Scholar… Recipient of Rotary Club Award for Academic Achievement in AP Computer Science (2017) … Son to Douglas ’89 and Rei Brockett ’89… Uncles Mark Brockett ’85, Erik Brockett ’96, aunt Rayenne Chen ’94 and grandmother Jane (Lee) Chen ’62 have previously attended Harvard/Radcliffe.

Gabe Putnam | Center Defender | Clovis, Calif. | Buchanan HS
Four-year varsity letter winner in water polo and swimming… Collected All-TRAC four consecutive years… Received All-American, All-NorCal, and three-time defensive player of the year from his sophomore to senior year… Lead his team to three-time section champions…Four-time Principals Honor Roll recipient… Valedictorian of Buchanan High School… Volunteered 200 hours to Clovis Community Medical Center… Son to Robert Putnam and Pamela Moore and sibling to adopted sister Rachel.
Nathan Wu | Goaltender | San Diego, Calif. | The Bishop’s School
Received USA Water Polo Outstanding All-Academic honors for two consecutive years (2017-18)… Named to the San Diego Union Tribune All-Academic Team in Dec. 2017 and May 2018… Member of 2018 Open Division Western Co-League Championship team and 2018 CIF Open Division runner-up… Lead his high school to its first regional appearance and first San Diego team in history to advance to the final four of Division I regional round… Participated in the USA Water Polo Olympics Development Program National Championship… Captured a silver medal finish with the Pacific Southwest Youth team… Recipient of Bishop’s School President’s Award, University of Pennsylvania Book Award and the Prudential Spirit of Community Award… Two-time gold winner of the President’s Volunteer Service Award and many more academic honors…Lettered in water polo and volleyball… Son to Bernadette and Justin Wu ’93 Harvard Medical School.
