BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Indiana University alumna Brooke (Zimmerman) Coburn ’08 earned recognition as the 2002 Water Polo Canada National Championship League Finals Women’s 17U Most Valuable Coach for leading the Calgary Renegades to runner-up finish.
The event was held at the MNP Centre in Calgary, Albernta from May 26-to-28 with Fraser Valley claiming the Women’s 17U Championship.
Recently inducted with the 2003 Canadian Junior National Team as part of the 2022 Canadian Water Polo Hall of Fame class, Coburn competed at Indiana from 2006-to-2008.
A native of Calgary, Alberta, she netted 206 goals, grabbed 172 steals, and dished out a school-record 151 assists during her tenure in Bloomington.
In each of Coburn’s three seasons, she earned CWPA (Collegiate Water Polo Association) All-West First Team honors and claimed Association of Collegiate Water Polo Association (ACWPC) All-America Honorable Mention status as a senior in 2008.
The recipient of a bachelors degree in Education from the University of Calgary and a bachelors in General Studies with minors in Sociology and Coaching from Indiana, she competed on the Canadian National Youth Team in 1999 and 2000 and was a three-time National All Star Team (1999, 2000, 2001). The Calgary Renegades Athlete of the Year in 2003 and the Renegades Senior Women’s Most Valuable Player in 2004 and 2005, she helped lead Canada to the 2003 Junior Women’s World Championship.
