NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. — The Maroon & Gold athletics community gathered together to help Iona College’s dining partner, Chartwells Higher Education, to pack 200 MATTERboxes snack packs. Each snack pack included a YouMATTER hand-written note of encouragement, which offered a way that those packing to share an inspirational message with the recipients.

The national campaign calls on people to spread kindness and fill the world with good. Several athletes across multiple sports helped to assemble 200 MATTERboxes that were distributed locally to Abraham House in the Bronx and Hope Community Services in New Rochelle.

Iona College’s dining partner, Chartwells Higher Education, along with MATTER and General Mills partnered to encourage students at its campuses to improve the health of their communities. MATTER is a Minnesota-based global nonprofit with a mission to move people forward by giving them a chance at a healthier life. Ellen DeGeneres teamed up with Cheerios to spearhead this initiative and Iona was chosen as 1 of 100 schools in the country to participate.

Additionally, many Gaels assisted the Office of Mission & Ministry last week in the College’s “Meals to Go” event. Iona college student-athletes helped to assemble bulk food items into packages and loaded up delivery trucks/vans for food pantries and soup kitchens to feed the homeless and those in need in New Rochelle.
