NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Former Iona College men’s water polo and swimming athlete Seth Tasman ’11 received recognition on the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) 40-Year Celebration team in men’s swimming.
One of five Gaels’ athletes to earn recognition on the men’s swimming team, Tasman stands as the third-highest MAAC Championship point scorer in Iona men’s swimming history. He was a three-time Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) qualifier and nine-time MAAC finalist in the 50 and 100-free and 100-butterfly.
Tasman held school records in the aforementioned events and was a member of four school-record relay teams, including the 200 and 400-free and medley relays. He had a memorable performance at the 2010 MAAC Championships, earning a team-best 49 points. Tasman grabbed pair of silver medals in the 50 and 100-free and claimed a fourth place finish in the 100-butterfly.
Tasman’s swimming career at Iona began with Rookie of the Year honors and he eventually earned team Most Valuable Player (MVP) honors later on in his Maroon & Gold career. The Orlando, Florida native was also a two-sport athlete, competing with the men’s water polo team and earning all-conference honors with Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Second Team honors in 2010.
During his senior year in 2010, Tasman picked up 56 goals with 16 assists 29 kickouts drawn in 25 games for the Maroon & Gold. It was the first time in his career that Tasman led the Gaels in points and goals.
The MAAC is celebrating the league’s 40th Anniversary throughout the 2020-21 academic year, continuing its mission to provide student-athletes the opportunity to succeed in both academics and athletics.
As part of its 40-year celebration, the league is highlighting some of the best student-athletes in its four-decade history. MAAC Swimming and Diving traces back to 1984, when La Salle University swept the first MAAC Championship for both the men and women.
