2019 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Special Awards Announcement

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Two-time Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Southern Division Sports Information Director of the Year Jill Guise of Johns Hopkins University is the recipient of the 2019 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Achievement Award in the College Division.

She joins University Division honoree Duke University senior sports information director Lindy Brown as the CoSIDA Achievement Award is, “annually presented to one associate or assistant media relations director in the University Division and one in the College Division who has made outstanding contributions to the field of college sports information and provided exceptional service to their institution or conference office. Nominee must have 10 or more years experience in the profession. This award, introduced in 2014-15, is designed for candidates that has not been a recipient of any prestigious CoSIDA major award (Arch Ward, Warren Berg, CoSIDA Hall of Fame) in their careers.”

All 2019 Special Award winners will be honored at CoSIDA’s annual convention, which takes place June 9-12 at the Orlando World Center Marriott in Orlando, Florida.

Currently in her 14th year as the Assistant Director of Athletic Communications at Johns Hopkins, where she is responsible for the coverage of men’s soccer, field hockey, water polo, men’s basketball, men’s & women’s swimming, men’s & women’s fencing, women’s lacrosse and men’s & women’s tennis, Guise has served as the Secretary for the Eastern College Athletic Conference Sports Information Directors Association (ECAC-SIDA) since the summer of 2008 and hosted the 2016 workshop in Lancaster, Pa., along with her husband/York College Director of Athletic Communications Scott Guise.

In her 14 years with the Blue Jays, Guise has hosted numerous Centennial Conference and NCAA Tournament events as well as promoted 37 CoSIDA Academic All-Americans, 47 conference champions and 25 individual national champions. She has also been named the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Southern Division Men’s SID of the Year twice.

The 2010 and 2016 CWPA Southern Division SID of the Year, Guise began her career in sports information as a graduate student at North Carolina State University. She spent two years as a student assistant in the NC State Media Relations office while pursuing her master’s degree in sports management. While at NC State, she interned for the Carolina Hurricanes (NHL) in the summer of 2002 and served as the Media Relations Assistant for the Hurricanes in the Fall of 2002.

After graduating from NC State in 2003, Guise landed her first full-time job as the Associate Director of Sports Information at St. Lawrence University in Canton, NY. There she was responsible for coverage of 15 of the Saints’ 32 varsity sports, including football and Division I women’s ice hockey. Guise covered two NCAA Frozen Fours in her time with the Saints women’s hockey team. After two and a half years in Canton, she relocated to Baltimore and Johns Hopkins University.

Guise is a 2000 graduate of the University of South Carolina with a degree in anthropology. She is married to York College Director of Athletic Communications Scott Guise.
