SALEM, W.Va. — The Salem International University Department of Athletics announced several changes within the aquatics department. Rick Johnson joins the Tigers’ staff as the new men’s and women’s swimming coach and assistant aquatics director, while Justin Kassab has been tabbed to lead the SIU women’s water polo program.

Johnson takes over both swim teams as they head into their second-year of competition. He will be assisted on the men’s side by Aquatics Director and head men’s water polo coach Robert Bullion, who guided the SIU swimming programs last season. Kassab, who is in his second-year with the Tigers, will assist with the women’s swimming program in conjunction with his head coaching responsibilities.

Women’s water polo will compete as a club in 2017-18, with the intent to become a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) varsity program in 2018-19. A schedule for the 2017-18 season is still in the works along with searching for a conference affiliation.
