NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. — No. 13-ranked Hartwick College built an early lead and never looked back in foiling Iona College 20-15 at the Hynes Center Pool to open a five game road trip.
The Hawks outscored the Gaels 13-6 in the first half. Iona managed the cut into the lead in the third and fourth quarters, but Hartwick’s lead proved too large to overcome in claiming a five-score victory.
Lena Kotanchyan (Moscow, Russia/Elk Island School) scored seven goals and collected six steals to key the Hawks. Zsofia Polak (Dunaujvaros, Hungary/Rudas) registered five goals, while L.J. Edwards (Encinitas, Calif./Cathedral Catholic) accounted for three tallies in the winning effort.
Katie McKenty (Auckland, New Zealand/Takapuna Grammar School) and Tori Wilson (Kitchener, Ontario/Grand River Collegiate Institute) both posted pairs of goals with Charlotte Cottle (Sydney, Australia/Presbyterian Ladies College) chipping in a solo strike.
