2022 McKendree University Men’s Water Polo Schedule

LEBANON, Ill. — McKendree University men’s water polo has announced the program’s 2022 schedule that features 10 conference games in the Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC), two in-season tournaments and four home contests at the McKendree Metro Rec Plex Pool in O’Fallon, Ill.

The Bearcats, who captured the MAWPC-West Region regular season title last season, opens their seventh season of intercollegiate competition on September 3 at home against Augustana College. The game is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start.

Following the season opener against Augustana, the Bearcats will hit the road for five consecutive events beginning on September 17-18 at the Bucknell Invitational in Lewisburg, Pa., on the campus of Bucknell University. At the event, McKendree will face Mount St. Mary’s University and Wagner College on September 17 prior to meeting the host Bison and Mercyhurst University on September 18.

The following weekend, the Bearcats will open conference play at the Hallman Aquatics Center in Erie, Pa. On September 24, the Bearcats face George Washington University, Bucknell and Johns Hopkins University, before concluding the two-day event on Sept. 25 against Mount St. Mary’s.

McKendree remains on the road to compete at the Gary Troyer Invitational at several venues in and around the Los Angeles, Calif., area. The Bearcats will open the three-day event on September 30 against Occidental College in Pomona, Calif., before facing Chapman University in La Verne, Calif. On October 1, the Bearcats clash with California Lutheran University prior to concluding the the event with a showdown versus the California Institute of Technology. The final two games will be played at the De Mandel Aquatic Center in Los Angeles.

The following weekend (October 8-9), the Bearcats travel to the Aquatic Center at Mylan Park in Morgantown, W.Va., to compete in another conference crossover event hosted by Salem University. At the event, the Bearcats are slated to take on 2021 MAWPC Champion Fordham University and Wagner on October 8 prior to meeting the United States Naval Academy on October 9.

On Oct. 22-23, McKendree will compete at the Division II Eastern Championship held at the Hallman Aquatics Center in Erie. At last year’s Division II Championship, the Bearcats finished in third place following a 20-6 win over Mercyhurst in the third-place game.

McKendree will open the final month (November) of the season by hosting a conference crossover event on November 5-6 at the McKendree Rec Plex Pool. The Bearcats host Gannon University and Mercyhurst on November 5 with a November 6 date versus Salem University.

The Bearcats conclude the 2022 regular season on November 12 in Rock Island, Ill., against Augustana.

The MAWPC Championship is scheduled for November 18-20 at Fordham’s Col. Francis B. Messmore Aquatic Center in the Bronx.  The victor of the MAWPC Championship earns the league’s automatic berth into the 2022 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championship field.
