ERIE, Pa. — Mercyhurst University women’ water polo closed out the home portion of the program’s schedule with a 10-9 overtime victory over Division III No. 6-ranked Augustana College at the Hallman Aquatics Cener. The Lakers officially finish with a home record of 4-1 and scored 73 goals over those five games.
Allie Dombkowski got things going for the Lakers to provide her team a 1-0 lead in the first quarter. Molly Langridge added to the lead before Augustana got on the scoreboard.
However, a Bri Allstun goal helped Mercyhurst go into halftime with a 3-2 lead.
In the third quarter, goals came fast and furious. Dombkowski netted her second goal of the game and Krista Domaracki tacked on another, but the Vikings were able to tie things up at five-all before the frame closed.
Mercyhurst was able to take back the lead with a trio of goals in the fourth quarter from Dombkowski, Grace Brzyski and Marley Hanlon.
The lead was short lived, however, as Anais Jones helped to tie the game at eight and force overtime.
In the extra minutes, Hanlon and Grace Tirak buried shots for the Lakers to go up 10-9.
Augustana had one final chance to extend the contest as the Vikings drew a penalty shot with no time remaining but were unable to convert to permit Mercyhurst to escape with a one goal win.
For Augustana, Ocean Akau and Charlotte Newport both tallied pairs of strikes, while Alayna Ickert, Maggie Caliendo, Jersey Merrick, Anais Jones and Anita Rodgers put away solo markers.
