INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) released the requirements to officiate the 2023-24 NCAA Men’s and Women’s Water Polo Championships. The requirements have no bearing up on eligibility to officiate during the regular season and conference championship tournaments.
In order to be eligible to work an NCAA championship, officials must complete the following criteria:
- Register on RQ+ (refquest.com)
- Consent to a background check
- Pass Rules Test –
- 50 questions
- 90% score required to pass
- Three (3) attempts allowed
- Attend the virtual referee seminar on August 26th
- Additional details will be made available shortly
- Referee a minimum of 12 NCAA contests (men’s season) – 15 NCAA contests (women’s season)
- Be nominated by at least one of the conferences with an Automatic Qualifier (AQ)
- Whistle at a conference championship with an AQ
- Officiate no more than three (3) consecutive NCAA championships
Note: NCAA staff may add additional eligibility items.

- Referee Seminar – Saturday, August 26, 2023
- Rules test open date – Monday, August 28, 2023
- Rules test close date – Friday, October 6, 2023
- The test will re-open in January for any officials only available to whistle the spring season.
