CARLISLE, Pa. — The quintet of Jake Anderson (Sr., Redwood City, Calif.), Jackson Geiger (So., Aliso Viejo, Calif.), Jack Haney (Sr., Redwood City, Cali.), Wyatt Rantz (Jr., Alamo, Calif.) and Aidan Seed (Sr., Woodside, Calif.) each scored twice to share Player of the Game laurels as Pacific Coast Division Champion/No. 1-ranked California Polytechnic State University dispatched Missouri Valley Division Champion the University of Missouri, 16-2, in the opening round of the 2025 Men’s National Collegiate Club Championship.
Competing at the Carlisle YMCA Aquatic Center in a championship event hosted by the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Mid-Atlantic Division, the Mustangs ran free from the opening sprint to the closing horn in building a 10-0 lead heading into the fourth quarter and putting the finishing touches on a 14-goal victory.
Courtesy the win, Cal Poly advances to a 12:30 p.m. Eastern quarterfinal on Saturday, November 8, versus the winner of a first round game matching Florida Division Champion/No. 11 the University of Florida and Northwest Division Champion the University of Washington. Missouri will return to the water at 7:30 p.m. this evening in a consolation game versus the loser of the Gators-Huskies meeting.
Cal Poly outscored Missouri 6-0, 2-0 and 2-0 in the first-to-third quarters, respectively, and led 14-0 with 4:42 to go in the game prior to the squads exchanging pairs of goals in the waning minutes of the contest for the 16-2 final score.
Ryan Bousfield (Sr., Granite Bay, Calif.), Daniel Davis (Sr., Alamo, Calif.), Owen Taylor (Sr., Menlo Park, Calif.), Noah Corral (Jr., Pasadena, Calif.), Hudson Macleod (Fr., Santa Barbara, Calif.) and Bennett Steiger (Sr., Sonoma, Calif.) chipped in solo markers for the Mustangs with goalkeeper Sam Rich (Fr., Santa Barbara, Calif.) stopping nine shots.
Alan Conway accounted for both of the Tigers’ tallies by denting the twine with 4:25 and 3:22 left in the fourth quarter. Goalkeepers Max Ptasiewicz and Matt McKean split time in cage with the duo accounting for five saves in the first and second halves, respectively.
