CARLISLE, Pa. — Joe Stanbridge (So., Huntington Beach, Calif.) scored six goals as Sierra Pacific Division Champion/No. 1-ranked California State University-Chico held off No. 11/Florida Division Champion the University of Florida, 15-10, to earn a spot in the 2025 Men’s National Collegiate Club Championship Fifth Place game on Sunday, November 9, at the Carlisle YMCA Aquatic Center.
Chico State – which is making its inaugural appearance at the Men’s National Collegiate Club Championship – will take on Rocky Mountain Division Champion/No. 19 the University of Colorado at 10:15 a.m. Eastern on Sunday, November 9, for Fifth Place. Florida will clash with Atlantic Division Championship Third Place finisher Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University (Virginia Tech) in the early game as the Gators and Hokies do battle at 9:00 a.m. with Seventh Place on the line.
The teams battled in the first quarter as Chico overcame an early 1-0 deficit to push ahead 3-2 by the conclusion of the opening seven minutes of competition. The Wildcats began to pull away in the second quarter as a 4-1 scoring advantage staked Chico State to a 7-3 lead entering halftime.
Florida was unable to trim its deficit below three goals over the duration of the second half as both teams punched in trios of tallies in the third quarter prior to Chico State going ahead 15-7 with 1:47 left in the fourth quarter. Florida chipped away at its deficit to close within five goals prior to the concluding horn.
For Chico State, Stanbridge, Cameron Reed (Jr., Rocklin, Calif.) (four), Hank Wildenradt (Sr., Rocklin, Calif.) (two) and Tony Trapanese (Fr., Vallejo, Calif.) (two) all posted multi-goal games to accompany a solo tally by Declan Linnane (So., Piedmont, Calif.).
The Gators – who previously posted marks of Eighth (2000), Third (2001), 11th (2002), Ninth (2003), Fourth (2008), 13th (2009), Third (2011), 12th (2017), 10th (2018), Sixth (2019), 10th (2022), Second (2024) and Sixth (2024) at the National Collegiate Club Championship – received pairs of goals from Brian Kent (Gr., Atlanta, Georgia), Dylan Umpierre (Sr., Orland, Fla.) and Tristan Hollon-Brooks (Gr., Marietta, Georgia) along with single scores by Micah Bayle (Sr., Hudsonville, Mich.), Owen Rimes (So., Orlando, Fla.), Graham Donnelly (Fr., Boca Raton, Fla.) and Nicky Borden (Jr., Danville, Calif.).
