No. 1 University of California-vs.-No. 13 Boston College Scoresheet (2022 Women’s National Collegiate Club Championship – Game #15)

HUNTSVILLE, Alabama — Lang Csira (San Clemente, Calif.) and Jolie Trujillo (Alamo, Calif.) both scored four times to share Player of the Game status as No. 1-ranked/Sierra Pacific Division Champion the University of California earned a spot in the 2022 Women’s National College Club Championship semifinals courtesy a 19-1 defeat of No. 13/New England Division Champion Boston College at the Huntsville Aquatics Center.

California – which won the 2015 Women’s National Collegiate Club Championship and previously placed Fifth (2014) and 11th (2013) before its championship season – is guaranteed to claim the second Top Four finish in program history as a berth in the semifinal ensures the Golden Bears will not finish lower than Fourth Place in the final 16-team championship standings.

The Golden Bears will seek to make their second title game berth as California will return to the water at 6:20 p.m. this evening in a semifinal clash with the victor of a quarterfinal matching No. 4/Southwest Division Champion the University of California-San Diego and No. 10/Texas Division Champion Texas A&M University. 

The loser of the UC-San Diego/Texas A&M quarterfinal will take on Boston College at 7:30 p.m. with a spot in the Fifth Place game at stake.

California dominated its meeting with Boston College from the opening sprint to the closing horn as the Golden Bears outscored the Eagle 8-0, 5-1, 4-0 and 2-0 in the first, second, third and fourth quarters, respectively.

For California, Csira and Trujillo were joined by Juju Clark (San Clemente, Calif.) and Livy Selden (Marin, Calif.) who also posted hat-tricks.  Maxine Eschger (Los Angeles, Calif.) added a pair with the trio of Christina Steinmeier (Sunnyvale, Calif.), Lisa Rennels (Palo Alto, Calif.) and Olivia Sumerfield (Hood River, Ore.) each accounting for solo tallies.

In cage, Georgia Stebbins (San Jose, Calif.) stopped two shots in picking up the victory.

Allie Tom (Honolulu, Hawaii) accounted for Boston College’s marker as she lined in a penalty shot with 5:24 left in the second quarter.  Goalkeeper Isabella Pesaresi (Newton, Mass.) turned aside 15 California scoring tries in taking the loss.

The Eagles are already guaranteed to eight equal or improve upon their prior best finish at the National Collegiate Club Championship following prior Eighth (2018, 2019), 12th (2009), 13th (2008) and 15th (2010) place marks.
