PITTSBURGH, Pa. — Michael Spence (Sr., San Francisco, Calif.) scored eight goals as New England Division Champion/No. 11-ranked Boston College overcame host the University of Pittsburgh, 16-10, in the 12th and final game on Day One of the 2019 Men’s National Collegiate Club Championship.
- The win places Boston College into a 1:40 p.m. game on Saturday, November 16, against New York Division Champion the United States Military Academy with a spot in the championship’s Ninth Place game on Sunday, November 17, at stake. A loss to Army will place the Eagles in the 11th Place game.
- Pitt will wrap-up its participation at the Men’s Collegiate Club Championship at 8:40 p.m. on November 16 as the Panthers will take on Northwest Division Champion Oregon State University in a 13th/15th Place game. A win ties OSU for 13th place, while a loss ties the Beavers for the 15th position in the 16-team championship field.
- Boston College never trailed against Pittsburgh as the Eagles opened up a 3-0 lead by the 5:29 mark of the first quarter and never looked back to hold 6-2, 11-4 and 12-6 leads at the conclusion of the first, second and third quarters, respectively.
- For BC, Dan Walsh (Sr., St. Louis, Mo.), Omar John (Jr., St. John’s, Antigua) and Jack Klingler (So., Newport Beach, Calif.) all netted pairs of goals to accompany single tallies by Filip Filipovic (Sr., Princeton, N.J.) and Carter Dwyer (So., Cincinnati, Ohio).
- Goalie Hart Ayoob (Sr., San Francisco, Calif.) earned the win with two saves in the first half before Adrian Lee (So., Palo Alto, Calif.) came in to stop a pair of shots in the second half.
- Christian Fortin led Pittsburgh with four goals. Robert Maholic tacked on a pair with Jack Novotny, Matt Franco, Jake Dearborn and Christian Olaya all accounting for single scores.
- Aaron Kaplan took the loss with two saves.
