TUCSON, Arizona — Goalies Tyler Dubile (Jr., Pleasanton, Calif.) and Player of the Game Hart Ayoob (Jr., San Francisco, Calif.) combined for eight saves as No. 15-ranked/New England Division Champion Boston College never trailed in topping No. 12/Mid-Atlantic Division Champion Villanova Universty, 12-4, to reach the Ninth Place game of the 2018 Men’s National Collegiate Club Championship at the University of Arizona.
Courtesy the win, Boston College makes the tournament’s Ninth Place game at 2:15 p.m. on Sunday, November 11, against the winner of a consolation game pitting No. 9/Florida Division Champion the University of Florida and No. 20/host Arizona. Villanova will take on the loser of the Florida-Arizona game at 3:30 p.m. on November 11 for 11th Place in the 30th and final game of the 16-team championship tournament.
The Eagles never trailed against Villanova as Boston College opened up a 2-0 lead prior to exiting the first quarter with a 4-1 advantage on the scoreboard. Leading 7-3 at halftime, B.C. continued to pull away in opening up a 9-4 difference by the end of the third quarter prior to Villanova attempting a comeback with a 3-0 run over the final seven minutes for the 12-10 final score.
For Boston College, Colin Derdeyn (Sr., St, Louis, Mo.) and Michael Spence (Jr., San Francisco, Calif.) both notched hat-tricks with three goals. Duncan Rowland (Sr., Manhattan Beach, Calif.), Omar John (So., St. John’s, Antigua), Daniel Walsh (Jr., St. Louis, Mo.), Nathan Yeung (So., Marin County, Calif.), Jack Klingler (Fr., Newport Beach, Calif.) and Carter Dwyer (Fr., Cincinnati, Ohio) each added single scores.
Will Marvin (So., Stamford, Conn.) keyed Villanova with two goals to accompany single tallies by Peter Cashmere (Fr., Bethesda, Md.) and Greg King (So., Bethesda, Md.). Wildcats’ goalie James Terhune (So., Darien, Conn.) took the loss with six saves.
