BROOKLYN, N.Y. — No. 16-ranked St. Francis College Brooklyn capped off a huge weekend by extending their winning streak to six games with a 13-11 win against the No. 11-ranked and defending Northeast Water Polo Conference (NWPC) Champion Crimson of Harvard University.
The win marks the second upset of a higher ranked team in as many days for the Terriers following a 5-4 defeat of No. 14 Brown University on Saturday, September 30.
The Terriers controlled the action for the duration of the contest, beginning with a goal from Nikita Prokhin off an assist from Bogdan Kostic 35 seconds into the game. At the 3:24 mark, after a 10-minute break in the action, the two teams traded penalty shot goals, and after another exchange three minutes later, the Terriers ended the first period with a 3-2 edge.
In the second period, the Terriers poured on three consecutive goals, two of which came from Tucker Angelo, amounting to a then 6-2 lead prior to Harvard cutting the deficit down to 7-4 at the half.
The Terriers opened the third period with back to back goals, reaching their biggest lead of the game, holding the fort against Harvard, 9-4.
St. Francis Brooklyn entered the fourth stanza with a 13-9 lead, and despite not scoring in the final eight minutes, they held on for a 13-11 victory over Harvard, capping off the upset with a huge penalty shot save made by freshman goalie Finn Doerries with seconds remaining.
In the game, the Terriers were led by William Lapkin with a game-high six goals. The aforementioned Angelo and Botond Kadar added two scores each.
