CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — Division III No. 6-ranked the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) water polo team fell to Northeast Water Polo Conference (NWPC) foe No. 18 Princeton University by a 16-9 final at home in the Zesiger Sports and Fitness Center Pool.

Princeton jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first quarter, but MIT was able to chip away at its deficit as Christian Schillinger (Orinda, Calif.) made the score 5-2 after the opening frame. The visiting Tigers, however, outscored the Engineers by a 5-1 margin in the second stanza as Princeton led 10-3 at halftime. 

Both teams scored three goals in the third quarter and three goals in the fourth quarter as MIT received a trio of goals from Miller Geschke (Los Altos, Calif.) as well as single tallies by Kevin Downey (Greenwich, Conn.), Pat Stefanou (Old Greenwich, Conn.) and Ward Weldon (Honolulu, Hawaii).

Geschke recorded his 15th hat trick of the season, while Schillinger led the way for MIT with a pair of steals.

MIT goalkeepers Hayden Niederreiter (Visalia, Calif.) and Conrad Oakes (Pasadena, Calif.) combined for eight saves and one steal as they split halves against the Tigers.
