BALTIMORE, Md. — The No. 2-ranked Fordham University water polo team finished up a Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conerence (MAWC) road weekend in Baltimore as the Rams swam past the Division III No. 10 Johns Hopkins University Blue Jays, 28-12, to improve to 24-0 overall, 10-0 in the MAWPC.
Fordham – which now stands two wins or a win and a George Washington University loss away from clinching the MAWPC regular season championship and the No. 1 seed for the championship tournament on Friday-Sunday, November 22-24, at the United States Naval Academy – opened a 7-2 lead versus Johns Hopkins after the first quarter. The Rams had six different goal scorers in the period with Jacopo Parrella leading the way with two.
The Rams continued to build on their lead with eight goals in the second quarter for a 15-5 edge, highlighted by a second quarter hat trick by Luca Provenziani.
Fordham ended up adding 13 more goals in the second half for a 28-12 win, matching the team’s season-high for goals scored in a game.
In all, 18 Rams found the back of the net. Provenziani and Jagger McMannis led the way with hat tricks, while Balazs Berenyi, Paul Armingol, Parrella, Lucas Nieto Jasny, Brendan Cassidy and Marco Napolitano each scored twice in the match. James Oriskovich, Barnabas Eppel, George Papanikolaou, Gabriel Melillo, Luca SIlvestri, Mark Katsev, West Gartland, Reid Thorson, Csongor Bartuszek and Andras Toth chipped in solo markers.
