SPRINGFIELD, Va./ANNAPOLIS, Md. — No. 2-ranked Fordham University took care of business by taking Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) road wins over No. 20 George Washington University, 19-5, and the United States Naval Academy, 18-10, to raise the Ram’s record to 23-0 on the year, 9-0 in the MAWPC.
Action started at The St. James in Springfield, Va., where Fordham blew past GW.
Trailing 2-1 after the first quarter, the Rams cranked up the offense in the second quarter, outscoring the Revolutionaries, 6-1 in the frame for a 7-3 lead.
Fordham then posted six more goals in the third and fourth quarters, while only allowing two over that span for the 19-5 final.
Offensively, Luca Provenziani led the attack with four goals and an assist, while Balazs Berenyi and Barnabas Eppel each scored a hat trick. Jacopo Parrella and Luca Silvestri each had three assists with Marco Napolitano having a pair of goals. In net, Thomas Lercari notched ten saves, two steals, and an assist in just over three quarters of work.
The nightcap saw Fordham sink Navy in Annapolis.
After Navy took the initial lead at 1-0, the Rams got back-to-back goals by Parrella to take the lead and would not look back.
Fordham totaled five tallies in the first quarter, six in the second, four in the third and three in the fourth for the eight-goal win.
Provenziani was again the Rams’ leading scorer with three goals, two assists, and two steals, while George Papanikolaou also had a hat trick. Lucas Nieto Jasny, Parrella and Andras Toth each had two goals with Paul Armingol dishing out four assists. In goal, Lercari had 12 saves with two steals.
