PRINCETON, N.J.  — The No. 21-ranked Princeton University women’s water polo squad improved its winning streak to six games by downing the Virginia Military Institute (VMI) Keydets, 19-9, prior to picking up a Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) league victory over the No. 24 Bucknell University Bison, 14-3, at DeNunzio Pool during the 2022 Princeton Invitational.

Taking on VMI in the Tigers’ opener, Princeton shutout the Keydets over the first 9:04 of game action while scoring the first eight goals to build an insurmountable lead.

Leading 11-3 by halftime, Princeton netted the first four tallies of the second half in cruising to a 10-goal victory.

For the Tigers, Meera Burghardt and Kate Mallery both posted hat-tricks.  Kayla Yelensky, Rachael Carver, Nicole Kresich and Mindy Pang each slipped in pairs with Laura Larkin, Genevieve Fraipont, Grace Houlahan, Jovana Sekulic and CiCi Stewart each netting solo markers.

In cage, Isabel Zaller stopped seven shots to earn the win prior to Alexa Kourpenous and Fraipont taking over down the stretch to close out the victory.

Taking on Bucknell in a CWPA league game, the Tigers jumped out to a 2-1 lead and ripped off 10 consecutive goals to acquire a 12-1 lead to overwhelm the Bison.

Burghardt (four), Yelensky (two), Larkin (two), Kaila Carroll (two) and Annie Robinson (two) posted multi-goal games with Kresich and Carver tacking on single strikes in the 14-3 victory.

Zaller went the distance in cage posting four saves.
