ANN ARBOR, Mich. — The No. 6-ranked Princeton University women’s water polo team scored eight consecutive goals to pull away from the Saint Francis University Red Flash to claim a 12-4 victory at the University of Michigan’s Canham Natatorium.
With the victory, the Tigers earned the No. 1 seed for the upcoming Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division I Championship on Friday-Sunday, April 28-30, at home in DeNunzio Pool.
Princeton started off with three of the first four goals and led 3-2 after eight minutes. After Saint Francis tied the contest, the Tigers held the Red Flash off the scoreboard for the next 18:29 of game action. Princeton rattled off eight straight tallies during that stretch before Saint Francis scored with 1:36 to go.
Five different players scored at least two goals for the Tigers as Meera Burghardt, Jovana Sekulic, Kaila Carroll, Kayla Yelensky and Annie Robinson each deposited pairs. CiCi Stewart and Ava Houlahan chipped in pairs of goals in support of a five save effort by Lindsey Lucas as Princeton up its 27th victory of the season.
