Florida State University-vs.-University of Virginia Scoresheet (2021 Men’s National Collegiate Club Championship – Game #10)

HUNTSVILLE, Alabama — Connor Serig (So., Miami, Fla.) scored seven goals as Florida Division Champion/No. 7-ranked Florida State University stopped Atlantic Division Champion the University of Virginia, 17-9, in the consolation bracket of the 2021 Men’s National Collegiate Club Championship hosted by the University of Alabama and the Huntsville Sports Commission at the Huntsville Aquatics Center.

The win advances the Seminoles to a 2:50 p.m. clash with the victor of a consolation game between New England Division Champion/No. 18 Boston College and Northwest Division Champion Oregon State University.  The winner of FSU’s next game earns a spot in the Ninth Place game on Sunday, November 14, while the loser plays for 11th Place at 3:30 p.m.

Virginia will wrap-up its participation at the Men’s National Collegiate Club Championship at 9:50 p.m. on Saturday, November 13, against the loser of the Boston College and Oregon State game,  The winner of the Cavaliers’ next game ties for 13th place in the final 16-team standings, while the loser ties for 15th place.

  • Virginia jumped out to a 4-1 lead with 2:16 left in the first quarter prior to Florida State chipping away to trail by only one at 4-3 by the conclusion of the opening quarter.
  • Florida State acquired the lead for the first time with 3:10 left in the second quarter and carried a 7-6 margin into halftime.
  • The Seminoles blew the game open in the third quarter by outscoring the Cavaliers by a 6-1 margin to gain a 13-7 lead through 21 minutes of action.  Florida State closed out the contest with a 4-2 advantage in the fourth quarter to take an eight-goal win.
  • For Florida State, Brandon Dunnigan (Jr., Miami, Fla.) and Mitchell Landsea (Jr., Miami, Fla.) both tallied pairs of markers to join Serig in netting multi-goal games.  Ramsey Fadlalla (Sr., Boca Raton, Fla.), Robert “Skylar” Klein (Jr., Lake Mary, Fla.), Steven Fandl (Jr., Coconut Creek, Fla.), Tyler Friedman (Sr., Boca Raton, Fla.), David Lemus (Sr., Hialeah, Fla.) and Victor Faynberg (Jr., Davie, Fla.) each accounted for solo tallies.
  • Willem Palmer (Fr., Mill Valley, Calif.) keyed Virginia with six goals.  Tyler Sweeney (Sr., McLean, Va.) tossed in a pair with Pranay Vittal (Fr., Short Pump, Va.) contributing a single tally.
  • In cage, Carsten Connolly (Sr., Arlington, Va.) took the loss for Virginia with 12 saves, while Nicholas Bottomley (Sr., Altamonte Springs, Fla.) and Raul Herrero (Jr., Miami, Fla.) combined for 12 saves between the pipes for Florida State.
