ERIE, Pa. — The host Lions of Penn State Behrend dropped games to La Salle University, 12-8, and Mercyhurst University, 15-1, to wrap-up the 2017 Behrend Invitational at the Junker Center.
In game one against La Salle, Maryn Horn (Houston, Texas/Jersey Village) gave Behrend an early 2-1 lead, scoring two straight goals to close out the first quarter. Four different Explorers recorded goals in the second quarter to regain the lead and taking a 5-3 lead into halftime.
Lauren Wood (Vernon Hills, Ill./Vernon Hills) registered her second goal of the game to open up the second half, but the Lions would go on to be outscored 3-1 by La Salle, looking at a four-goal deficit heading into the final eight minutes. Behrend scored four goals in the fourth quarter, putting together their best quarter yet. Unfortunately, they were unable to erase the Explorer lead.
Alison McClure (Loveland, Ohio/Milford) and Wood each tallied two goals in the game while Horn led with three.
Game two proved to be all Mercyhurst as the Lakers dominated the Lions in shots (29-to-13) and converting five goals on seven power plays.
Behrend’s only goal of the game came in the fourth quarter when McClure scored on a penalty shot.
