LEWISBURG, Pa. — The Saint Francis University women’s water polo teamsplit the second day of the Bucknell Invitational by falling against the host Bison, 10-9, in a Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) contest prior to defeating Siena College, 14-13, in overtime.
The Red Flash scored four goals in the second quarter to take a 6-3 lead against Bucknell. Sam Eschleman started the scoring run with Kayla Rhoads and Sofia Maioriello tallying goals after her. With 1:10 left in the half, Adi Garges found the back of the net.
Trailing 8-6 at the end of the third quarter, Bucknell took the lead with 45 seconds left in the game. Isabel Lumley tied the game at nine apiece with 27 seconds to go. The Bison scored to break the tie with just two seconds left to take the match.
Eschleman led scoring with two goals in the morning’s contest. Cayah Olay recorded three field blocks to lead Saint Francis.
Facing Siena, Maioriello and Garges put up goals in the first overtime period to take a 13-11 lead. Siena scored early in the second overtime, but Olay found the back of the net to maintain the lead. With 1:06 remaining, the Saints narrowed the lead to one, but the Red Flash remained out ahead.
Garges recorded four in the win over Siena, while Megan Marlin earned four assists versus the Saints.
Ohlson and Rhoads each picked up two blocks in the win.
Lumley made 12 saves against the Bison. Against Siena, she tallied 20 saves.
