BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Sophomore Milos Popovic (Nis, Serbia/Gymnasium 9 May) of Salem International University contributed 19 goals, three assists, five steals, and five earned ejections in a 2-2 weekend in league play at home and on the road for the Tigers to earn September 25 Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) Player of the Week notice.
He netted a hat trick and added one assist with a steal in a 19-2 defeat of Washington & Jefferson College on Friday, September 22 at home. Popovic returned to the waters of the SIU Pool on Saturday, September 23, to rack-up five goals and two steals with an ejection drawn in a 16-15 loss to Gannon University.
On Sunday, September 24, at Washington & Jefferson, Popovic scored four goals while grabbing two steals and drawing one earned ejection in a 15-14 loss to LaSalle University. Facing Connecticut College, Popovic had his best game of the weekend by scoring seven goals with two assists and three ejections drawn in a 20-18 victory over the Camels.
It marks the second weekly honor bestowed on Popovic during his intercollegiate career as he previously collected notice as the October 24 MAWPC Rookie of the Week during the 2016 season.
