ERIE, Pa. First-year Gigi Sandull (Kenilworth, N.J.) and senior Maria Sell (San Mateo, Calif.) combined for 10 goals to lead the Connecticut College women’s water polo team to a wild 17-16 victory at Penn State Behrend in Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division III-East Region action.

Playing in their second game of the day at the regional tournament in Erie, the Camels put up a season-high 17 goals against the host school.

Conn outscored Penn State Behrend, 5-3, in the opening quarter thanks to an early hat trick from Sell. After the successful opening eight-minutes, the Camels led the Lions for the duration of the game.

The two teams jockeyed back-and-forth in the middle two quarters. The two teams combined for nine total goals each in the two frames. First year Emma Luna (Wahiawa, Hawaii) was a big part of the success of Connecticut, tallying a pair of scores, while Sandull was integral in the third quarter, also scoring two goals.

In the fourth quarter, the hosts were able to outscore the visitors, but the Camels held strong in the end to seal the 17-16 victory.

With the win, Connecticut improves to 3-4 this season, while the Lions drop to 0-14.
