University of California-San Diego-vs.-Washington University in St. Louis Scoresheet (2021 Men’s National Collegiate Club Championship – Game #21)

HUNTSVILLE, Alabama — Nine different University of California-San Diego athletes scored as the Pacific Coast Division Champion/No. 1-ranked Tritons picked up a 16-5 victory over Great Lakes Division Champion/Division III No. 1 Washington University in St. Louis to earn a spot in the 2021 Men’s National Collegiate Club Championship title game at the Huntsville Aquatics Center.

The Tritons- who previously finished Third (2019), Fifth (2018) and Ninth (2013) in the program’s three prior National Collegiate Club Championship appearances – will take on Big Ten Division Champion/No. 2 Michigan State University at 12:45 p.m. on Sunday, November 14, for the National Championship. 

Washington – which previously claimed seven Division III Collegiate Club National Championships (2011, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019) before the 2020 and 2021 events were canceled directly and indirectly due to the COVID-19 pandemic – will wrap-up its inaugural appearance at the National Collegiate Club Championship at 11:30 a.m. on November 14 versus the University of California in the Third Place game.  Washington is guaranteed to rate as the highest finishing Division III institution in the history of National Collegiate Club Championship.

  • UC-San Diego never trailed against Washington as the team raced out to a lead of 3-1 by the conclusion of the first quarter and pulled out in front 6-3 by halftime.  The Tritons put the game away in the second half with 4-1 and 6-1 scoring advantages in the third and fourth quarters, respectively, to acquire an 11-goal victory.
  • For UC-San Diego, Max Black (So., Seattle, Wash.) led the way with four goals.  Graham McClone (Gr., Placerville, Calif.) added a trio, while Jack Harper (Sr., San Diego, Calif.) and Andrew Schade (Sr., Solana Beach, Calif.) deposited duos.  William French (Jr., San Diego, Calif.), Jordi Rivera (Sr., Madrid, Spain), Gonzalo Rivera (Sr., Madrid, Spain), Arthur Sefayan (Jr., Ventura, Calif.) and Peter Olson (Fr., Coronado, Calif.) all notched solo scores.
  • Jackson DaPuzzo (Fr., Greenwich, Conn.), Jake Engelberg (Fr., Los Angeles, Calif.), Zach Hausner (So., Los Angeles, Calif.), Joel Hsieh (Sr., St. Louis, Mo.) and Antonio Mendez (Fr., Baltimore, Md.) comprised the entirety of the Bears’ scoring in the game.
  • In cage, Washington’s Asher Schwartz (Fr., Los Angeles, Calif.) and Sammy Fehr (Fr., St. Louis, Mo.) combined for four saves.  UC-San Diego received seven stops in a victorious effort by Thomas Winham (Sr., Cheshire, England).
