Departmental Overview
The Men’s Club Water Polo team was started less than 10 years ago, and has grown to become one of the best club programs in the country. The team boasts five straight Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Sierra Pacific Division Championships, as well as yearly CWPA Top 5 National Collegiate Club Championship finishes. We have had multiple first team, second team, and third team player mentions each season. A large part of our season is raising enough money to travel to nationals and buy caps/gear, which is something we are extremely proud of. Our team intends to transition from a consistent regional champion to a national champion over the upcoming season. The successful candidate will possess a positive, inspiring attitude and will be expected to steward the program through a growth phase with improved competitive success and advancement as the core goals.

Responsibilities

  • Organize and run structured, regular, well-attended practices.
  • Attend all competitions and tournaments.
  • Comply with University regulations.
  • Maintain a professional and positive presence on the deck and within the community.

Required Qualifications

  • 1-3 years of coaching experience (high school or collegiate level preferred)
    • Strong interpersonal skills and an understanding of human behavior/athleticism
    • Knowledge of current water polo coaching techniques/strategies
    • Ability to establish appropriate and effective mentoring relationships with player
    • Compliance with all Cal Sport Club, Department of Recreational Sports and University policies and guidelines.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPR/First Aid certification
  • Comfort using email/text and social media channels

Salary & Benefits
$4,000 over duration of the contract, as well as reimbursement for away games.
This position is not eligible for UC Benefits plan.

Other Information

Hours:
Fall Semester: 2-3 two-hour practices a week plus games
Spring semester: 2-3 weekends for tournaments/games

Berkeley does hire people with conviction histories and reviews information received in the context of the job responsibilities.
