BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — The University of Florida men’s collegiate club team defended its home water over the weekend as the Gators finished 4-0 to capture the 2024 Spring in the Swamp title.
Florida topped Tampa (13-11 W), the Florida Alumni team (19-8 W), Breach (16-13 W) and the Florida State (15-12 W) to win the title after placing fifth last year and in last place two years ago.
The Gators – which finished as the runner-up at the 2023 Men’s National Collegiate Club Championship hosted by the University of Utah at the Kearns Oquirrh Park Fitness Center in Kearns, Utah, on Friday-Sunday, November 10-12 – was led by Nicky Borden (Fr., Danville, Calif.), Luke Carey (Sr., Orlando, Fla.), Micah Bayle (So., Hudsonville, Mich.) and goalkeeper Logan Mazor (Jr., Hollywood, Fla.) as part of an off-season preparation for a run at the 2024 Men’s National Collegiate Club Championship. The 2024 Men’s National Collegiate Club Championship is tentatively slated to be hosted in the New England Division.
Facing Florida State on Saturday, March 30, Tyler Conti (Gr., Fort Lauderdale, Fla.), Dylan Umpierre (Jr., Orlando, Fla.), Bayle and Nathan Weaver (Sr., London, Ontario) led the way with pair of goals as Florida claimed a 15-12 victory. Against Breach in a 16-13 win, Carey inflicted the majority of the scoring by accounting for eight goals with Bayle, Umpierre and Dante Lorenzo-Rodriguez (Jr,, Miami, Fla.) chipping in pairs of markers.
Taking on the Florida Alumni on Sunday, March 31, Bayle scored seven times, while Borden, Tristan Hollon-Brooks (Gr., Marietta, Georgia) and Lorenzo-Rodriguez tacked on pairs in a 19-8 win. Hollon-Brooks accounted for five goals with Lorenzo-Rodriguez (three) and Carey (two) also posting multi-score games the Florida chomped its way to a 13-11 defeat of Tampa.
