BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Ashvath Balgovind (Gr., Fremont, Calif./Mission San Jose) of the University of Massachusetts scored 20 goals with two assists, 12 steals and seven field blocks during a 3-1 weekend for the Minutemen at Williams College in Williamstown, Mass., in the final regular season league tournament.  For his efforts, Balgovind garners recognition as the October 16 Men’s Collegiate Club Colonial Division co-Player of the Week.

The award is shared with the University of Connecticut’s Jack Bialek (Jr., Westport, Conn./Staples) who racked up 16 goals, two assists, seven steals and five field blocks during a 4-0 run by the Huskies to clinch the Colonial Division No. 1 seed for the Colonial/North Atlantic Divisions “A” Championship on Saturday-Sunday, October 21-22, at Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine.

Balgovind – who previously competed on the West Valley College and University of California-Los Angeles men’s collegiate club teams – opened the weekend by netting seven goals in a 19-5 victory over Wesleyan University prior to helping UMass also defeat Amherst College (18-14 W OT) and Williams (12-9 W).  He closed out the weekend by scoring three times in a 19-11 loss to Connecticut as the Huskies clinched the regular season title, while the Minutemen earned the Colonial Division No. 2 seed for this weekend’s championship.
