BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Abby Andrews (So., Indooroopilly, Australia/Brisbane Girls Grammar School) of the University of Michigan is among 13-athletes on the final Australia roster for the 2019 FINA World Women’s Junior Water Polo Championship. The tournament will take place from September 9-15, 2019, on the island of Madeira in Portugal.
The Aussies will play Hungary, Japan and USA in the group rounds.
Andrews is coming off another international appearance as she combined with Wolverines’ teammate Sofie Pontré (So., Perth, Western Australia/Santa Maria College) to help Australia claim Fifth Place at the 2019 World University Games in Naples, Italy.
Andrews also competed for Australia at the Youth World Championships in 2018 before enrolling at Michigan in January. She established Michigan rookie records of 70 assists and 126 points in helping the Wolverines capture the 2019 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Championship. She was named the CWPA Rookie of the Year and CWPA Rookie of the Tournament to go along with All-CWPA Second Team honors.
