BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — The University of Michigan’s Sydney Miller earns recognition from the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) office as the league’s 2024-25 Women’s Division I Sports Information Director of the Year.
Selected by the CWPA Director of Communications, the SID of the Year award is presented to individuals who “have achieved notable excellence in the field of water polo communications during the past academic year.”
A 2025 graduate of Michigan with a degree in Sport Management, she served as a student assistant in the Michigan Athletics Communications Office during the 2024-25 academic year overseeing the women’s water polo program. She ensured seamless communication and coordination through press releases featured on the MGoBlue.com website, applied Adobe Creative Suite applications to design visual assets, promotional content, and game notes to drive awareness, while also supervising and mentoring an intern.
In addition, she collaborated with a Assistant Director of Communications to devise and execute comprehensive social media strategies for various teams on campus. In this position, she leveraged Adobe InDesign and Photoshop applications to produce 30+ infographics, promotional materials, and game notes to communicate key messages and promote events, teams, and players. Further, she operated statistical programs to gather real-time data and generate insights for coaches during and after games.
During the 2022-23 academic year, she served as a communications intern with USA Hockey’s National Team Development Program in Plymouth, Mich In this role, she supported and helped grow the organization’s social media accounts by writing and posting content on Instagram (83.3K followers), Facebook (22K followers) and Twitter (43.3K followers). Further, she assisted with press release writing and distribution to support event promotion at USA Hockey Arena, while also engaging with off-ice officials to ensure accurate tracking of key game statistics, including plus-minus and goals scored.
Her award marks the 11th CWPA Division I SID of the Year laurel presented by the league office since the merger of the women’s Southern, Northern and Western Divisions into one format prior to the 2015 season as Miller joins Achilles Carmenate/Michael Black (Harvard University/2015), Ben Blevins (Michigan/2016, 2017, 2019, 2020), Josh Schur (Harvard/2017), Chris Gondek (Hartwick College/2018), Matt McCann (Mount St. Mary’s University/2021), Connor McCorry (Harvard/2022), Warren Croxton (Princeton University/2023) and Matt Klinkenberg (Harvard/2024) on the list of honorees.
