PRINCETON, N.J. — The Bucknell University women’s water polo fell 14-10 against VIllanova University in its first contest of the Princeton Invitational hosted by Princeton University at DeNunzio Pool.

Freshman goalie Tamara Torkos had eight saves against the Wildcats.

The score was tied at three-all at the conclusion of the first quarter. Junior attacker Boati Motau made her 2024 debut with the team, scoring one for the Bison.

Senior Isabelle Monaghan drained four of her seven shots for Bucknell.

Sophomore Bella Schraa kicked off the second quarter, finding the back of the net to earn the Bison their first lead of the game and her first of two goals. The Wildcats went on a 3-0 run to regain the lead by two. Malli Challa looked to close the gap and was successful when she netted her first goal of the game to move the Bison within one goal..

Sophomore center defender Ella Mattocks posted a hat trick in the second quarter, going on to score five goals for the Wildcats

Both teams traded goals back and forth throughout the second half.  However, Villanova finished on top with a 9-2 run to end the game and earn the victory.

For the Bison, Caitlin Stott and Sidney Finkler also scored.
