STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The Wagner College men’s water polo team earned their third Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) win of the weekend with a 15-13 victory over Bucknell University. Prior to the event, Wagner honored its two graduate students and four seniors.

The Seahawks improved their overall record to 15-11, with a MAWPC record of 6-3.

Wagner jumped out to a 5-2 lead after one quarter of play. Senior Barnabas Vidovics scored the first goal of the game, and would find the back of the net once again in the frame less than one minute later. Junior Mattia Bognolo, junior Luis Camino Sosa and senior Ryan Lanier were responsible for the rest of the Seahawks’ goals.

The Green & White extended their lead heading into the half, outscoring the Bison 4-1 in the second quarter. Seniors led the way on their day, Vidovics completed his hat-trick as Lanier added his second in the frame. Zsombor Gyemant joined the scoring column, in the middle of the quarter, to bring Wagner’s first half goal total to nine. 

Sophomore Laszlo Strasser was the first to score for Wagner in the second half. As time expired in the third quarter, Vidovics sniped his fourth goal of the contest, lifting the Seahawks to a 11-7 lead prior to the final frame.

In the fourth, Gyemant scored his second of the game and Bognolo put away two for Wagner. With Wagner holding a 14-13 lead, Strasser fired a shot past the Bucknell keeper to bring the Seahawks to a two point win on Senior Day.
