ERIE, Pa. — The Washington & Jefferson men’s water polo team split a pair of matches in Mid-Atlantic Water Polo West-Region Conference action on Sunday, September 26 at the Hallman Aquatics Center in Erie, Pa., with a defeat of the host Mercyhurst University Lakers, 10-9, and a 16-9 loss to Salem University.
Taking on the Lakers, goalie Zishuo Ma (Los Alamitos, Calif./Los Alamitos) propelled the Presidents to a 10-9 victory over Mercyhurst.
Ma recorded 14 saves in the net as the win snaps an 11-game losing streak to Mercyhurst, which spanned back to November 2015.
Cam Spicer (Lansing, Mich./East Lansing) paced the offense with four goals. Chris Edwards (Columbus, Ohio/St. Charles Prep) tallied a pair of scores while four others registered a goal each. The four others to reach the scoresheet were Mitchell Rubio (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny), Andrew Edwards (Columbus, Ohio/St. Charles Prep), Anthony Ames (Canyon County, Calif./Canyon) and Aiden Johnson (Nassau, Bahamas/Windsor).
In the late game versus Salem, Chris Edwards led the Presidents with three goals. Ames added a pair of scores while four other Presidents added a goal each.
Ma recorded 12 saves in goal for W&J against the Tigers.
