WASHINGTON, Pa. — Washington & Jefferson College men’s & women’s water polo head coach Nikola Malezanov will lead the USA Water Polo Men’s Cadet National Team at the upcoming Darko Cucic Memorial Tournament.

The 15U event is set to run August 15-20 in Belgrade, Serbia. Team USA was drawn into Group A alongside Serbia, Australia, Netherlands, Slovakia, Malta and Moldova. The United States opens play on August 15 against Slovakia and Malta.

Malezanov serves as the head coach of the US Cadet National Team, which is part of the Olympic Development Program (ODP) under the governance of USA Water Polo.

“It is truly a honor to lead Team USA on the Cadet level,” said Malezanov. “It is a tremendous opportunity to coach the best athletes in our country at this age group. The whole team is excited about competing in Belgrade, Serbia, the home of one of the best water polo countries in the World. Soon after this competition ends, W&J men’s water polo preseason training will start and I am sure that the enthusiasm will carry over.”

A native of Nis, Serbia, Malezanov will be entering his first season as the men’s water polo coach at W&J after taking the reins of the women’s program on an interim basis during the 2016 season.
