BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Former Hartwick College head women’s water polo coach Mike Maroney continues to be involved with the sport as head men’s swimming and water polo coach at San Joaquin Delta College in Stockton, Calif.

Maroney joined Delta College as head men’s water polo and swimming coach in January 2008.  He arrived on campus from the University of the Pacific where he served as Aquatics Director and head men’s water polo coach from 2003-2008. 

The head women’s water polo coach and a Physical Education instructor at Hartwick from 1999-2003, Maroney has compiled a 200 -180 record, including five seasons with 15 or more wins. 

A five-time Coach of the Year selection (Eastern College Athletic Conference – 2001; Collegiate Water Polo Association – 1999, 2000; United States Water Polo – 2002, 2005), he has coached 28 All-America and 53 All-Conference selections during his tenure as a head coach at Hartwick, Stockton and Delta.

A native of Baytown, Texas, and a 1993 graduate of Pacific, he earned a master’s degree in education from Texas A&M Corpus Christi in 1999. 

While attending Pacific, he was an All-Big West Conference swimmer and water polo player following All-America honors as a swimmer at Long Beach City College.  In addition to his swimming prowess, he also helped the water polo team win the 1988 State Championship with a perfect 32-0 record.

An assistant on the USA Junior National Team from 1996-1999, as well as the Head Men’s & Women’s Zone coach for the Southwestern Zone in 1996-1999, Maroney served as the head Northeastern Women’s Zone Coach from 2000-2003.
