Connecticut College-vs.-Wheaton College Scoresheet (2024 Collegiate Water Polo Association Division III Championship – Game #7)

NEW LONDON, Conn. — Ainsley Cornwall (So., San Mateo, Calif./Aragon), Kendall Foley (Sr., Sammamish, Wash./Eastlake) and Gigi Sandull (So., Kenilworth, N.J./Union County Vocational-Technical School) each posted a hat-trick with three goals to share Player of the Game honors as host Connecticut College outmatched Wheaton College (Mass.) on the second day of the 2024 CWPA Division III Championship at the Jane Cadwell Lott ’36 Natatorium.

The Camels (8-7, 4-4 CWPA Division III) – which topped first-year varsity program Wheaton (0-12, 0-8 CWPA Division III) by scores of 19-3 (March 6, at Wheaton, Norton, Mass.), 17-4 (March 9, at Washington & Jefferson College, Washington, Pa.) and 19-3 (April 3, at Connecticut) in three 2024 regular season meetings – advance to a 5:30 p.m. Eastern/2:30 p.m. Pacific game later today versus Grove City College.  The victor of the Connecticut-Grove City game competes in the Fifth Place game on Sunday, April 21, at 10:30 a.m. Eastern/7:30 a.m. Pacific, while the loser battles for Seventh Place at 9:00 a.m. Eastern/6:00 a.m. Pacific.

Wheaton will be playing to stay in the Constitution State at 4:00 p.m. Eastern/1:00 p.m. Pacific later today as the Lyons will take on Penn State Behrend.  A victory earns the team another day and contest as the winner competes in the Seventh Place game on April 21. However, a loss terminates Wheaton’s season as the team will finish Ninth of nine teams in the championship field and will not have a game on Sunday.

The Camels did not suffer a lack of scoring against the Lyons as the team built a 7-0 lead by the conclusion of the first quarter, expanded the margin to 13-1 by halftime and 16-2 in the third quarter prior to inflating the final score to 19-3.

Emma Luna (So., Wahiawa, Hawaii/Punahou School), Jada Keen (Fr., Kailua-Kona, Hawaii/Kealakehe) and Gicel Zuniga (Sr., Norwalk, Conn./Norwalk) notched pairs of goals for the Camels to accompany the trios of tallies by Cornwall, Foley and Sandull.  Anna Taylor (So., Pleasanton, Calif./Foothill), Melia Lorch (So., Encinitas, Calif./San Dieguito Academy), Brooke Brandenburger (So., Sacramento, Calif./Christian Brothers) and Sarah Franco (Sr., Weston, Conn./Weston) each dented the twine once.

Allie Taylor (Jr., Raleigh, N.C./North Raleigh Christian Academy), Issabel Babikova (So., South Portland, Maine/South Portland) and Izabella Agraz (Jr., Moraga, Calif./Campolindo) accounted for Wheaton’s offense.
