 MERCED, Calif. — The University of California-Merced seeks a part-time assistant water polo coach.

The University of California, Merced is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience. The full salary range for this position is BYA.  The budgeted salary that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $10,000 – $12,000/yr.

Remote/Hybrid eligibility: This position is fully on-site.

This is a 25% part-time contract position.

About the Job:  Under general direction, oversees specific aspects of a small to mid-size sports program. May provide guidance to other personnel.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Under guidance of head coach, develops technical aspects of player coaching.
  • Analyzes performance and instructs participants in program strategies and techniques to prepare them for competition.
  • Observes players while they perform to determine need for individual or team improvement.
  • Participates in the evaluation of student athletes’ performance.
  • Represents and promotes professional conduct, university good will and high standards at all events and games.
  • Ensures adherence to all governing rules, university, department, conference, NCAA policies and procedures, including student-athlete benefits.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in related area from an accredited institution.
  • 1 year of related experience, or equivalent experience/training with a college-level program.
  • Maintain CPR/AED and First Aid Certification.
  • Valid Driver’s License.

Critical Knowledge:

  • Specialized knowledge of the team sport or activity, as well as basic technical expertise in coaching principles.
  • General knowledge of National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) rules.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with athletic participants.
  • Knowledge of NAIA rules.
