BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — 136 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) student-athletes earned league Scholar-Athlete honors for the 2019 women’s varsity season.
Divided into three teams (Outstanding: 4.0-3.71; Superior: 3.70-3.41; Excellent: 3.40-3.20), the list recognizes athletes who competed for a CWPA institution during the 2019 season and recorded a grade point average above 3.20.
Princeton University (four Outstanding-six Superior-four Excellent) and Brown University (four Outstanding-seven Superior-three Excellent) lead the league with 14 honorees, while Harvard University (three Outstanding-seven Superior), Macalester College (two Outstanding-six Superior-two Excellent) and the University of Michigan (two Outstanding-five Superior-three Excellent) notched 10 accolades.
Utica College (one Outstanding-seven Superior-one Excellent) and Carthage College (three Outstanding-three Superior-three Excellent) both posted nine selections with Saint Francis University (four Outstanding-three Superior-one Excellent) earning eight nods.
The duo of Bucknell University (two Outstanding-four Superior-one Excellent) and George Washington University (two Outstanding-four Superior-one Excellent) both racked up seven picks with the trio of Austin College (three Outstanding-two Superior-one Excellent), Grove City College (two Superior-four Excellent) and Wittenberg University (one Outstanding-four Superior-one Excellent) posting six laurels.
Connecticut College (one Outstanding-three Superior-one Excellent), Monmouth College (three Outstanding-two Superior), Penn State Behrend (two Outstanding-two Superior-one Excellent) and Washington & Jefferson College (one Outstanding-one Superior-three Excellent) completed the recognized CWPA schools as the trio each tallied five notices.
In addition, 15 schools earned Team Academic honors for recording grade point averages above a 2.75 threshold.
Macalester (3.53), Brown (3.48) Harvard (3.46), Princeton (3.38), Wittenberg (3.35), Connecticut College (3.32), Carthage (3.30) and Saint Francis (3.30) exceeded a 3.30 GPA, while Austin (3.26), Bucknell (3.23), Utica (3.23), George Washington (3.21), Michigan (3.21), Grove City (3.12) and Penn State Behrend (3.08) also topped a 3.0 GPA.
